It all started on September 24th of the year 2000. The earth welcomed another new soul. Her parents gave her a name derived from the genus Olea, which is a genus of flowering plants in the family Oleaceae. Perhaps they gave her this name knowing that she would become someone who aspired to blossom—meaning she hoped to be more healthy, more confident, more successful.
She also happens to be the one writing this to you.
Growing up, the little girl felt just that: little. She felt insignificant and invisible. Ironically, her inability to fit anywhere made her stand out more in a way that made her uncomfortable with herself. Why couldn’t she just be like everyone else? Only after having the courage to look within did she realise that she could never be like everyone else because she simply wasn’t everyone else. She wondered: In a world where everyone is unique but where a lot of people look the same, what does it mean to be yourself?
It may seem like this little story is about a random girl, but it’s actually about you. Maybe you can relate to feeling invisible. Maybe you’ve never felt attractive enough. Maybe you don’t relate to any of that. Whether you do or not, the truth is that we’ve all been prompted to make a choice: you either show up in life as the person you are, the person you wish to be or the person you are expected to be.
Everyone has a story, and if a picture says more than a thousand words, why not tell yours?
